Parents balk at cost of keeping kids amused

Whether it’s an adrenaline filled day at a theme park or seeing the animals at a zoo, families across the UK have been planning day trips to keep their children entertained over the Easter holiday.

But research indicates that on average parents are spending over £200 a year to entertain their children through the school holidays.

And in these tight times, more than three quarters (77 per cent) of parents admit to cutting back on the number of day trips due to the associated costs.

With around two fifths of parents (38 per cent) saying they spend over £200 a year on family days out and one in ten (13 per cent) spending in excess of £400, it’s easy to see why some parents do not plan as many trips as they would like to.

A fifth (21 per cent) only plan days out to attractions in the UK once a year or less, including seven per cent of parents who say they never take their children on day trips.
