Overnight closures on the A1

The work will take place on the 15 mile section from the A1/B661 Buckden roundabout south of Brampton to the A1/A6001 Biggleswade south roundabout.

The surface will be improved in both directions. The road markings will also be repainted and kerbing replaced.

The work will take place from 8pm to 6am from Onday to Friday nights with no work taking place on Saturday and Sunday nights.

This will take palce in five stages to minimise disruption and the final stage will be completed, weather permitting, by Saturday, August 13.

Keith Hutchinson, Highways Agency project sponsor, said: “This work will improve the road surface and minimise the need for future roadworks.

“The work has been carefully planned to keep disruption to a minimum and that is why it is taking place overnight when traffic flows are lowest.

“We ask that drivers take extra care when travelling along the diversion routes.”

Diversions and closure details are below:

Phase 1, Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 July, southbound carriageway closure between the A1/A421 Black Cat roundabout (Wyboston) and the A1/A603 Sandy roundabout. Southbound traffic diverted off the A1 at Black Cat, westbound on the A421 to exit at the A603 Cardington Junction, eastbound on the A603 to re-join the A1 at Sandy.

Phase 2, Wednesday 27 to Friday 29 July, southbound carriageway closure between the A1/A603 Sandy roundabout and the A1/B658 Biggleswade North roundabout. Southbound traffic diverted off the A1 at Black Cat, westbound on the A421 to exit at the A6 Elstow junction, southbound on the A6 to join the A507 eastbound at Copthill roundabout and re-join the A1 southbound at the A1(M) junction 10, Baldock.

Phase 3, Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 August, northbound carriageway closure between the A1(M) junction 10, Baldock, and the A1/A603 Sandy roundabout. Northbound traffic will be diverted off the A1(M) at Baldock, westbound on the A507 to Clophill roundabout, north on the A6 to join the A421 eastbound at Elstow junction and re-join the A1 northbound at the A1/A421 Black Cat roundabout.

Phase 4, Monday 8 to Thursday 11 August, northbound carriageway closure between the A1/A603 Sandy roundabout and the A1/A421 Black Cat roundabout. Northbound traffic will be diverted westbound on the A603 to join the A421 eastbound at the A421/A603 Cardington junction then re-join the A1 at Black Cat roundabout.

Phase 5, Friday 12 August, southbound carriageway closure between the A1/B661 Buckden roundabout and Diddington. Southbound traffic will be diverted from the A14 Brampton Hut interchange, along the A14 eastbound to exit at junction 24, Godmanchester, to join the A1198 southbound, westbound on the A428 at Caxton Gibbet roundabout to re-join the A1southbound at Wyboston.
