The merger has been put forward by the governing body of Flitwick Lower and the committee for Busy Bees, who share a site. It would require the school to lower its age range from 4-9 to 2-9 for years for the start of September 2020 term.

The proposal will not affect the age at which children are admitted into pre-school, or the school’s determined admissions agreements, but would see the governing body take over the management of the pre-school.

Following a five-week joint preliminary consultation carried out by the school and the pre-school in October 2019, which resulted in support for the merger, the school’s governing body and pre-school committee submitted a request to Central Bedfordshire Council, to consider the change of age range, and to carry out a statutory consultation for the proposal.

Further information, including how you can have your say can be found on the council’s website. Responses to the consultation must be sent in by 5pm on 17 February.

After the close of the consultation, the decision whether to approve the change will be made by the council’s Executive Member for Families Education and Children, after consideration of the responses to both parts of the consultation process.
