With the prospect of having to raise a huge deposit and the difficulties of getting a large mortgage, home ownership can feel like it’s out of reach.

However, Aragon has a number of solutions to help those who want to get on the property ladder but are finding it difficult.

For example, New Build Homebuy (also known as shared ownership) allows someone to purchase a percentage of the property and pay rent to Aragon on rest of it. We have a number of shared ownership properties available in the area, all of them brand new.

The great thing is, anyone who’s not on the property ladder can apply for a shared ownership property, so it is perfect for families, first time buyers or anyone who currently rents. Its purpose is to provide a stepping stone from renting to home ownership.

Another option is to purchase a share of a property from an existing shared owner, who has decided to sell.

Known as re-sales, you would own the share that was sold by the existing owner and pay rent to Aragon on the rest of the property.

Once you’ve been in your shared ownership property for a while, there may be an option to buy further shares in the home.

This is known as staircasing, and means that eventually, you may be able to own the property outright.

However there is no obligation to do this if you don’t want to.
