'One lucky little fella' - Family dog rescued after jumping off Bedford Bridge on New Year's Day

Firefighters rescued a family dog after it leapt from Bedford Bridge into the River Great Ouse on New Year's Day morning.

Beds Fire and Rescue rushed to the scene before deploying water technicians and firefighters to save the soaked canine.

Social media users took to Twitter to celebrate the successful rescue, including the dog's delighted owner.

She said: "Thanks to the guys from Beds Fire Service for rescuing our pup after he was chasing pigeons and jumping of the town bridge with excitement! One lucky little fella."
