A man suffered serious injuries after a lorry overturned on the A1 yesterday.

At around 4.35pm air ambulance Magpas Helimedix arrived at the A1 near Roxton, via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW, after a lorry came off the road, overturned and landed on its side.

The Magpas team assessed a man in his 30s, who suffered serious injuries to his arm.

They then administered enhanced pain relief - and worked alongside the Beds and Luton Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service Trust to move him safely from the vehicle and into a land ambulance.

The Helimedix then accompanied the patient in a Land Ambulance to Bedford Hospital. On arrival at the hospital he was in a stable condition.

Magpas Doctor Nick Scott said, “We wish our patient a swift recovery. He was extremely fortunate, given the nature of this incident. We would also like to thank a woman who lived nearby, who happened to be a trained nurse.

“She was first on the scene and initially stepped in to provide first aid and support.”
