New deputy at Beds Police HQ

Mark Collins will take up the role after serving as the force’s Assistant Chief Constable since joining from the Metropolitan Police in June, last year.

Mr Collins has notched up 24 years’ experience in policing and counter terrorism expertise with Dyfed Powys Police, in Wales, and the Met, where he held a number of high-profile roles including Borough Commander at Waltham Forest, in London.

Mr Collins said: “I have been given a tremendous welcome at Bedfordshire and have been impressed by the determination of the committed, driven people working hard to make the county a safer place for residents and visitors.

“I’m delighted to have been made Deputy Chief Constable and feel privileged to have the opportunity to help take the force to the next level.”

His appointment was announced by Bedfordshire’s Chief Constable, Jon Boutcher, who said he is looking forward to working with Mr Collins.

Mr Boutcher said: “Mark has a wealth of experience in policing and has been a great addition to the force since his arrival as Assistant Chief Constable last year.

“He has been instrumental in implementing our new policing model and the improvements we have seen in performance in recent months.

“I’m convinced he will play an important role in helping us take the force forward.”

Bedfordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Olly Martins added: “We were fortunate with the calibre of candidates who applied for the role which demonstrates that, for all of our financial and policing challenges, Bedfordshire is recognised as a force that punches above its weight and has truly dedicated officers and staff who are a privilege to work with.”
