New Chief Crown Prosecutor appointed will work for ‘justice for all’

Adrian Foster has been appointed Chief Crown Prosecutor (CCP) for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in Thames and Chiltern, which covers the counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Adrian was appointed in December 2013 and started with CPS Thames and Chiltern in January.

The previous CCP, Baljit Ubhey OBE, who joined CPS Thames and Chiltern as the CCP in May 2004, became the CCP for London in October 2013.

Adrian qualified as a barrister and joined CPS London as a legal trainee in 1993. He prosecuted in Marylebone and West London before leading the Blackfriars Crown Court Team.

In 2002 he moved to Gloucestershire to become the Head of the Trials Unit before becoming Chief Crown Prosecutor there in 2006.

Adrian moved to CPS Headquarters in 2010 to become Head of Operations for the CPS nationally, with responsibility for Area Performance, Court Business and Fees, Inspectorate Liaison and the Prosecution team. In June 2013 he was seconded as Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor to CPS London and had responsibility for the London Crown Court North Unit.

Adrian said: “I feel greatly privileged to have been appointed to lead CPS Thames and Chiltern. I joined the CPS as a legal trainee over 20 years ago because I wanted to make decisions that would deliver justice and I’ll be doing just that as I oversee prosecutions across the area.

“The work we do is tremendously important to safeguarding our communities by ensuring that the right defendant is prosecuted for the right offence at the right time. We are there to make sure that every victim or witness has the confidence and support to give their very best evidence to the court. And we continue to work closely with the police, the courts and our other criminal justice partners to improve the service we provide and to deliver justice for all.
