The first part of the commemoration will take place around the Anne Frank Tree in Russell Park, between Pembroke and Bower Street, at 11.45am.

After a short walk back to the Harpur Suite, a civic commemoration will then commence at 12.45pm, and will be conducted by Revd. Cassandra Howes, Chair of Bedford Council of Faiths and Heather Bonner, University of Bedfordshire Chaplaincy Assistant.

Revd Howes said: “It is vital that we continue to remember and reflect on the atrocities of the past, but also that we commit ourselves to making sustainable change. Join us at this year’s commemorations, make your pledge to be an active part of creating change.”

The Mayor of Bedford Borough, Dave Hodgson, added: “Everyone is welcome to attend, as we stand together to remember the millions of victims of genocide and to consider the dangers of failing to tackle hatred or exclusion in any form.”
