Motorsport boss dies in collision

Fatal crash on A428 near Bromham

A professional racing team boss has died after a collision involving a car and a van on the A428 near Bromham.

Joe Tandy from Pavenham was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which took place at the junction of the A428 and the A5134 at around 12.20pm on Wednesday (May 13).

Mr Tandy, who was boss of JTR, which competes in the British Formula 3 and Formula Ford championships, was driving a silver BMW 5 series towards Bedford when the collision with the box van took place.

The van had turned right out of the junction towards Turvey.

A second man, believed to be a family friend who was a passenger in the BMW, was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

He suffered serious head injuries and doctors have described his condition as critical.

The driver of the van suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bedford Hospital South Wing.

A full collision investigation is underway.
