Items stolen include mirrors and mirror casing, a bumper and a quantity of number plates.

Superintendent Jim Lunn said: “We take theft of vehicle parts and from vehicles extremely seriously. We are continuing to build an intelligence picture around these recent incidents but we don’t believe that specific car models or parts are being targeted.

“We have only seen a small increase in incidents of this type, but it’s still important the public take steps to keep their vehicles and property safe. For example, make sure all car doors and windows are locked, alarm or immobiliser features are enabled, and consider fitting a steering wheel lock when leaving your vehicle.

“Don’t leave anything in your car, including hiding things under seats or in the glove box. UV pens can be used to mark property, which provides a deterrent. Mark items like mobile phones, cameras or standalone sat nav systems with your house number and postcode.”

Anyone who needs to repair or replace vehicle parts is strongly encouraged to use only a reputable and approved parts supplier and to ensure that the items they are purchasing are legitimately sourced.

Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
