A Bedford gym is hosting a two-day open event to promote the work it does with young offenders and street drinkers.

Midland Road’s Samsons Fitness wants to highlight positive work that is going on in the troubled area to target gang culture and other social issues.

The gym will be open on Saturday from 12.30pm to 5pm and Sunday from 11.30am to 3pm, and among the guests will be local dignitaries.

Owners Dorian Alexis, Sam Nutt and Zeb Clay opened the gym in 2007 and have now been working with the probation service to help to rehabilitate offenders for almost a year.

Dorian said: “We work with them exceptionally hard to turn their lives around.”

Among their tasks is breaking the cycle of gang culture and anti-social behaviour.

They also open up the gym and its showering facilities to street drinkers in a bid to help them improve their lives.
