Mayor Dave Hodgson kicks off opening new Bedford sports facilities

Budding young footballers will be able to put their soccer skills to the test at a new sports facility which opened on Friday.

The new football pitch and pavilion, part of a new homes development off Norse Road in Bedford, is now complete and ready for action.

The new facility which offers changing rooms, showers and parking will be avaliable to be used by local sports teams and the wider community,

Mayor of Bedford, Dave Hodgson officially opened the facility.

He said: “It’s great to see the sports pitch and pavilion completed and open for use by the community. Bedford has a proud sporting culture which is founded on participation and enjoyment, and these new facilities for the Aspire estate will enhance that even further.”

The project was funded by Orbit Homes and based at its new Aspire development.

The executive director of property investment, Paul High said: “Orbit’s £600,000 investment into the new sports facilities at Aspire is a real demonstration of our commitment to not just building new homes, but communities too.

“Sports and games are a great way to bring people together, and we hope the new pitch and pavilion create a thriving centre of activity for the Aspire community.

“We are also keen to hear from local sports clubs who may be interested in using the pavilion and pitch on a regular basis.”
