Masked men riding push bikes try to rob store

Two men wearing balaclavas threatened staff with weapons during an attempted robbery on a Bedford store.

They rode in on push bikes before trying to enter the One Stop, in Avon Drive, at around 6am yesterday morning,

Luckily quick-thinking staff members were able to protect themselves and prevent access to the store.

Detective Sergeant Katherine Rivers said: “I’m urging anyone with information or who saw any suspicious activity in the area to get in touch.

“This was a very distressing incident for the members of staff involved and we are committed to finding those responsible.

“We are reminding all business owners and staff to remain vigilant and review their security measures and ensure they have CCTV in place and working, with signs to let those who enter the store know that it is in use.

“We encourage any suspicious activity to be reported to us to help prevent this criminality.”
