Man to stand trial accused of lay-by sex assault

A man is due to stand trial accused of sexually assaulting a woman motorist who had stopped in a lay-by with a flat tyre.

Robert Wright, 37, of Walnut Close, Pavenham, was due to appear at Luton Crown Court today (Tuesday) via a video link from Peterborough jail.

Although he had spoken to his lawyer Mark Nicholls earlier in the morning, he was not produced when the case was called on.

The offence is alleged to have taken place in a lay-by off the A6 near Oakley, at around 7.30pm on June 8 this year.

It is alleged the woman was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her and tried to drag her into a field.

Mr Nicholls indicated that his client would plead not guilty to the charge and Judge David Farrell QC adjourned the case for a trial on December 1.
