A week of fundraising is being held at a Bedford hotel to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland.

Mad Hatter tea parties will be the order of the day at the Swan Hotel from Monday, July 6 until Sunday, July 12, as the riverside venue raises cash for Macmillan.

Drink Me! Eat Me! is the theme as ‘adults only’ Alice drinks are served on the terrace during the fun event.

Visitors will be able to help support the chosen charity by opting to drink or eat Alice in Wonderland-themed meals, snacks and cocktails.

Sales manager Natasha Trudgill said: “This is the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland and we have decided to tie the famous book brand in with a plan to raise money for a great cause.

“Throughout the week there will be Mad Hatter themed parties to fit in with our popular afternoon teas, plus Eat Me and Drink Me special menus and drinks.

“On the evening of Saturday, July 11 there will be an adults-only Vodka Luge on the Riverside Terrace. The luge is a giant ice sculpture which will be on an Alice in Wonderland theme and over which people can pour vodka for a really chilled drink.”
