Lollipop lady who was knocked down just before Christmas is still in hospital

A lollipop lady who was knocked down by a car on the last day of term before Christmas is still in hospital.

She suffered a life-threatening head injury in the accident outside Bedford Road Lower School.

The long-serving lollipop lady, named locally as Sylvia and aged 71, was air-lifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

A spokesman for Bedford Borough Council said: “Sylvia remains in hospital in a stable but poorly condition. Our thoughts are with her and her family and we wish her a swift recovery.”

The driver involved stopped at the scene and a police investigation is ongoing.
