Glaswegian comic Susan Calman is bringing her tour Lady Like to the Harpur Suite, Bedford on Thursday, October 2, fresh from the Edinburgh Festival.
Spend an hour with the woman known as The Mad Cat Lady to her neighbours, and Calman promises to reassure you, make you feel better about your own life and let you find out what being lady-like really means.
Using anecdotes, observations and no-holds-barred honesty the feisty Scot has a heart-warming confession to make. Plunging to life’s lowest depths she has come out the other end and wants to share her story. The show is, above all, a call to like ourselves no matter what others say – a journey of self-discovery and self-indulgence.
Susan says: “All of us have mental health issues, it’s just that for some of us, our issues make us go more mental than others.” After studying law at Glasgow University and going on to work in the field – including a stint working with death row inmates in the US – Susan turned to comedy and gained her first success by reaching the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2005.
Since then she has appeared on a number of TV and radio shows and following a very successful pilot Susan will host a brand new BBC Radio 2 panel game show, Listomania, which explores the world of the list – from the humble to-do list to the finality of the bucket list. Throughout the show lists are made, examined, rated, broken down, and, well, listed by the teams, as they try to make a confusing world more pleasingly list-shaped. It is due for broadcast next year.
The Bedford show starts at 8pm. For ticket details call 01234 269519 or visit www.bedfordcornexchange.co.uk
