Leading appointments made at Bedford Girls’ School, with new post of sixth form director

Two appointments have been made at Bedford Girls’ School to strengthen its senior leadership team.

Tom Hill has been appointed deputy head and Dr Jennifer Walters is director of sixth form, a newly-created position at the school.

Mr Hill joins from Lincoln Minster School where he was the head of sixth form.

Having worked both in the UK and abroad, Mr Hill brings with him a wealth of skills and experience gained from these different educational environments, which he will use to build on the school’s strong foundations and help take it to the next level.

Mr Hill said: “I am delighted to be joining such a well-respected school in the form of Bedford Girls’ School.

“The pedagogy and ethos of the school closely matches my own. I feel it is important that, as teachers, we acknowledge our responsibility to prepare girls to face an ever changing world. Core skills are as important as academic achievement to ensure girls are equipped with the necessary resources to thrive in any situation.”

Dr Walters arrives at the school after stints teaching at Fettes College, Edinburgh, and Malvern College, with both offering the International Baccalaureate (IB), an internationally recognised, alternative programme to A Levels, which encourages students to think independently.

In her role as director of sixth form – a newly-created position at the school – Dr Walters will be primarily responsible for building on the school’s strengths as an IB establishment, while also giving students as many opportunities, including leadership roles, in the sixth form to be motivated and inspired to achieve their very best.
