Firefighter were called to a blaze in the main kitchen at Yarl’s Wood detention centre.
Crews were called to the facility, which holds those facing potential deportation, just before 1pm today (Wednesday).
They discovered that an automatic sprinkler system above a deep fat fire had been activated, which extinguished the flames.
A fire blanket had also been used.
Firefighters checked that the kitchen was safe and no other action was required.
The fire cause was logged as accidental.
