A young recruit hoping to make it as police sniffer dog has passed his first real test - choosing a new name.
With the help of fans on social media, the pooch-formerly-called-Duke, now goes by the name Charlie.
The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Dog Unit put out a call on its Facebook page last week, asking people to choose their favourite name from a shortlist of nine.
Charlie was a clear winner with 377 votes being cast. Buzz was in second place with 242 votes and Yoda in third, with 192 votes.
More than 1,500 people helped the springer spaniel in his search for a new moniker after he discovered there was another Duke in his class.
Now, Charlie and his handler are continuing to make excellent progress on the six-week training course, which hopes to develop its attendees into proactive drug detection dog teams.
Further news, updates, photos and videos will be shared on the team’s Facebook and Twitter accounts and they can be accessed by visiting www.facebook.com/BCHPoliceDogs and www.twitter.com/dogpolicebCH.
