Volunteers at the John Bunyan Museum in Bedford have won an award for their dedication.

The Mill Street museum’s stewards team were awarded a highly commended in the front of house category, at the SHARE Volunteer Awards for Museums in the East. Representatives from the museum attended the ceremony at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, and the award was presented by Kate Carreno, assistant director of the Fitzwilliam.

The judge said: “They are a dedicated, enthusiastic, cheerful, and hardworking team, from many different backgrounds, and different ages. They are helpful, cheerful, and ready to get stuck in, and a true asset to their museum.”

Three individuals and the museum’s stewards team were nominated from the John Bunyan Museum.

Nicola Sherhod, curator, said: “I’m so proud that the team have been recognised for their fantastic contribution to the museum! The John Bunyan Museum would not be able to open without their time and dedication, and the museum would not be the welcoming and enjoyable visitor attraction it is without their love and enthusiasm for what they do.”

The SHARE Volunteer Awards received an impressive 69 nominations from 46 different museums around the Eastern region. Nominations were received from museums of all sizes as the awards scheme seeks to recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers make to museums and their communities.
