It’s time to get your fun on as BedPop Fun Palaces launches events and workshops to amaze and inspire.
Running this Saturday and Sunday, the festival will celebrate arts, culture and science.
There’s dozen of free activities hosted by artists, scientists, computer programmers, curators, illustrators, crafters and performers.
Highlights will include:
>An engineering challenge between structural engineers from Network Rail and students at Mark Rutherford Upper School. Battle of the builds – using just 20 sheets of paper and 1 metre of sticky tape!
>Contemporary cross-stitch with Mr X Stitch.
>See an exclusive preview and live installation of the new JMW Turner watercolours exhibit at the Higgins. This is a unique opportunity to see how the curators go about hanging priceless works of art and to #askthecurator about any aspect of art preservation and museums.
> A maths/drama workshop with internationally renowned Theatre de Complicité at the Quarry Theatre. Awesome olfactory activities hosted by Orchadia - the smelliest fun at
the Fun Palaces.
>Contribute to a quilt of Bedford - draw your favourite Bedford landmark & it will become part of a handmade quilt.
>Discover The Home of the Awakened Mind - BCA’s mini commission by Paul Pibworth – an installation at The Higgins, Bedford in association with students from Beauchamp School.
>Sign up for coding workshops at Bedford Library, join story times with Novus Theatre’s James and the Giant Peach and get hands-on with history thanks to English Heritage.
>Get robotic at Animal Gallery with the Circus of Illustration and design your own BedPop bot!
>Take the Culture Challenge or pedal power your own smoothie in Harpur Square.
Erica Roffe, from BedPop Fun Palace, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to bring so many excellent free activities to Bedford through collaborating with so many local businesses and organizations. We are passionate about sharing the art, culture and scientific excellence that is on our doorstep and giving children a wide variety of hands-on experiences. Our young visitors will be the scientists and artists of the future so we hope that they will be inspired by what they see at the BedPop Fun Palaces.”
