The Inner Wheel Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne held an International Service charity lunch where members and their guests enjoyed a simple but delicious meal of shepherd’s pie and homemade desserts.
Long-standing member, Wendy De Lisle, generously prepared the main course, while other members donated delicious desserts.
The event is held every year and has always supported many worthwhile causes internationally. This year is no exception and the £626 raised will benefit Water Aid, the main charity for this year, Sight Savers and Red Cross International.
It is most encouraging that every year a substantial sum is raised nationally by the Inner Wheel in support of International causes.
During the year, if a humanitarian crisis arises, individual clubs aim to send financial aid, often in the form of a contribution towards the purchase of Aquaboxes or Shelterboxes, so vital for families following natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes.
At the April meeting, members were due to hear a talk from a hospice chef running cookery courses for the bereaved.
A small group of club members were also due to attend the Association Conference in Bournemouth.
