Hospital patients get a whole lotta lolly as temperatures soar

It is miserable being in hospital at the best of times – let alone when temperatures are soaring into the 30s.

So to make life a bit more comfortable, patients at Bedford Hospital were treated to an ice lolly to help them cool down.

Hundreds of the frozen snacks were handed out around the wards, with housekeeping staff also ensuring that patients had access to plenty of ice and water.

Nina Fraser, director of nursing at the hospital, said: “Excessive heat can be a particular risk to vulnerable groups such as the very young and very elderly, so throughout the week our staff have been working very hard to help our patients stay cool, well hydrated and as comfortable as possible.”
