Direct from Memphis – the amazing Cherry Lee Mewis is back in her home town this weekend!

After 10 weeks of touring the US including Nashville, Memphis and Mississippi, Cherry will be giving a homecoming gig at Esquires on Sunday, October 12 at 5pm.

Her tour of the US included a date at none other than Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, which saw Morgan coming down specially to see Cherry and the band.

Cherry will be performing with her full band at Esquires – they are Max Milligan on acoustic guitar, Nick Slater on dobro, Robbie Stewart-Mathews on double bass and Brian Green on drums.

Cherry began her career in her hometown in north Wales from the age of 12, developing not only her powerful soulful voice, but her performance and style too. Later she picked up a ‘bargain bin guitar’, learnt some chords and started putting pen to paper.

Cherry said: “While I loved to entertain people, I always knew I would never be satisfied singing cover songs for the rest of my life so that’s when I started writing songs on the guitar. It took me a while to find my own voice but I totally appreciated the creative process, especially when I signed to a management deal when I was 17 and spent every waking moment in the studio creating. It was an amazing life experience for me.”

Cherry has been in much demand on the UK rock scene.

As well as performing on stage with the stars she has also sang both backing and lead vocals on albums by Del Bromham of Stray (Nine Yards), The Quireboys (Homewreckers & Heartbreakers) and most recently Bernie Marsden (Shine).

Cherry has been accompanying Bernie on his UK tours since 2012, at sellout shows including Silverstone’s British Grand Prix in front of 15,000 people. Admission to the gig is free. Visit www.cherry
