Cheer on your home football team this Saturday – and Get Behind The Eagles!

Your Times & Citizen is urging readers to support Bedford Town Football Club in this coming season as they take on teams in the Southern League Division One Central.

Over the weeks we’ll be featuring many aspects of the club and its loyal supporters – and the volunteers who help keep the Eagles flying!

So get down to the Eyrie and cheer them on as they run out on the pitch for the first home game, against Leighton Town, at 3pm, at Meadow Lane.

Eagles chairman David Howell says there’s much to look forward to this new season and welcomes new supporters to the ground.

He said: “I’ve lived in the town since 1989 and my three children have all been brought up here. We are Bedford people.

“I love this club and I’ve put a lot of hard work into it, as well as time, effort and money.

“Through the Times & Citizen we hope to encourage more supporters to attend the Eyrie and support us on match days. The more fans and volunteers we can get to come down the better. Supporters are the lifeblood of any football club and we are no different at Bedford Town.

“There are so many jobs to do on a matchday and we have a great set of volunteers already but we do need more – so if anyone is thinking of volunteering please make yourself known to us.”

With the Eagles commencing their season with a stirring 5-3 victory away to Beaconsfield on Saturday, August 9, after being 2-0 down after 11 minutes – their first opening day triumph since 2000 – Mr Howell is cautiously optimistic about their chances this term.

He said: “Last season was difficult but we now have an impressive new manager in Craig Adams and a new squad and I think we can be competitive in this division.

“A good thing is despite relegation we are still involved
in the same cup competitions as last year and I would encourage as many people to come down and support us against Leighton Town this Saturday, August 16. I think there’s a lot to look forward to this year.”

New supporters will find the Eyrie at Meadow Lane, Bedford, MK44 3SB, and there’s parking available, too.

Over the coming weeks the T&C will be running feature articles on different aspects of the club and its supporters.
