Sporting sessions to improve people’s mental health are being held at Bedford Central Library. Yoga and table tennis will run on Wednesdays, from March 2, as part of Bedford Borough Council’s Just Turn Up scheme aimed at those who feel they experience issues with mental wellbeing. Portfolio Holder for Public Health Councillor Louise Jackson said: “We all know being physically active is good for our bodies, but our physical health and mental health are closely linked.
“Often, when people feel isolated, the thought of taking part in sporting activities can be daunting. The new sessions are designed by mental health professionals and supported by volunteers with lived experience of mental health to support people to feel comfortable in taking part.”
The 16-week programme costs £2 per session and run on a first-come, first-served basis from 1pm.
