It’s going to be a very merry Christmas for some as unemployment figures have dropped yet again this month.
Success with Christmas contracts means that 130 people living in Bedford have secured paid work in the last month.
Among those 35 are aged 18 to 24, which means the number of young people out of work has dropped by more than 40 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Marieka Macaulay from the town’s Jobcentre Plus said: “Looking forward it is looking good for people in Bedford.
“The retail sector in Bedford is currently really strong. We have had a lot of success with Christmas contracts.”
Bedford people are also travelling to nearby Milton Keynes and Luton for jobs.
Local people are also travelling to nearby Milton Keynes and Luton for work and the job centre is still working with Bedford’s new M&S Simple Food store to fill vacancies.
