Girl fighting for her life after a collision with a hearse

A teenage girl is fighting for life after a collision with a hearse.

The young pedestrian suffered serious head injuries in the accident on Thursday afternoon in Bedford.

Police were called after reports that a pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a vehicle on Park Avenue.

The East of England Air Ambulance arrived on the scene at 4pm with a doctor and two critical care paramedics on board.

The girl was given an anaesthetic and she was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The hearse is understood to belong to Arnolds Funeral Service in Bedford.

Michael Liddle, the managing director of Neville Funeral Service, the parent company of Arnold’s, declined to comment on the incident.

He added: “Our best wishes go both to the young girl involved and her family.”

Bedfordshire Police said: “The young girl remains in a very serious condition and police enquiries are still ongoing.”
