When you watch the polished, preened, and let’s not forget spray-tanned, professionals gliding about on Strictly Come Dancing it’s easy to forget how fit the dancers have to be.
Now, fans of the show have the chance to learn the steps and have a serious workout at the same time with Strictly star Ian Waite.
Ian, along with fellow dancer Natalie Lowe, and contestant and swimmer Mark Foster, has created the latest fitness craze Fitsteps.
And he is coming to Bedfordshire to teach a masterclass with local instructor Claudia Calardo.
Claudia said: “Fitsteps is like aerobics, or Zumba, in that it is an exercise class. You learn Latin and Ballroom but it is a version of the steps to make it a fitness workout.
“And the beauty of it is, you don’t need a partner.”
Claudia, who is also a ballet and dance teacher trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, in London.
There, she became friends with Coronation Street’s Natalie Gumede, who was a Strictly contestant in 2013.
Claudia said: “I went to support Natalie at the live show and got chatting to Natalie Lowe.
“As she told me about Fitsteps, I realised I had to train to be an instructor.”
She added: “I think Fitsteps will be big. I’ve invited Ian to do this event before it gets massive!”
The masterclas, at The Paula Radcliffe Sharnbrook Community Sports Centre, Odell Road, Sharnbrook, is on Sunday, March 29, and is open to newcomers as well as Claudia’s regulars.
It opens at 10.15am with the dance session running from 10.30am to 11am.
