GALLERY: Pirates and princesses celebrate World Book Day

Staff and pupils at Caudwell School dressed up for a day of tales from the high seas and stories of royal rebels.

Assistant head teacher Dan Wiltshire said the children “absolutely loved” wearing costumes and taking part in activities inspired by their favourite books.

He said: “We held lots of activities in the library such as treasure map drawing and making up a pirate code.

“The children also designed pirate ships and chose their ideal crew.”

In the afternoon, staff put on a play based on the book Princess Smartypants, a story about a princess who is determined to stay unmarried and independent.

Mr Wiltshire said: “As we had a male teaching assistant in a fetching Elsa dress as Princess Smartypants, the children loved it - especially when the princes kissed her on the cheek.

“World book day reminds us of the importance of storytelling, and for the school to see teachers acting and letting their hair down.”
