An investigation has been launched into an overnight fire which left a derelict pub almost totally destroyed.
Firefighters fought the blaze at the former Brickmaker’s Arms public house on Woburn Road, Kempston, in the early hours of this morning (November 23).
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at midnight and when crews arrived several minutes later they found the building well on fire.
The fire was tackled by three fire engines and crews from Kempston and Ampthill, supported by the Bedford Aerial Platform and the Kempston Water Carrier.
Using breathing apparatus and two hose jets Firefighters fought the fire for several hours, getting under control by 2am and extinguishing it by 2.30am.
The building was 90 per cent destroyed by fire and there were no casualties.
Firefighters visited the site at 4.40am to check for hotspots and re-visited the scene again this morning to check again that the fire is completely extinguished.
A fire investigation is underway.
