Former sports editor’s top award

The Biggleswade Chronicle’s former sports editor, Alan Wooding, triumphed at the Holland Press Event and Awards evening held at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in London’s Pall Mall on Tuesday when he was named Journalist of the Year.

Alan, who retired in November 2012, has continued to supply and edit regular travel articles to seven Premier Newspaper Group publications including this website, and his reports topped more than 1,500 entries in the annual competition.

The award was made by Axel Rüger, director of Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum, who attended the event to launch Van Gogh Europe 2015, a series of events due to take place throughout Holland, Belgium, France and England next year on the 125th anniversary of the famous artists death.

The category winners at the prestigious awards night were: Dutch City: Steve Bustin (Pride Life Magazine); Dutch Icon: Chrissie Walker (Mostlyfood.co.uk); The Arts in Holland: Richard Dorment (Daily Telegraph); Cycling in Holland: Glen Mutel (National Geographic Traveller); Off the beaten track: Anthony Lambert (Wanderlust).
