Former Chairman raised almost £53,000

In Cllr Maudlin’s first year £29,000 was raised for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and in the past year almost £24,000 has been raised so far for the Alzheimer’s Society.

With her dedication to fundraising Cllr Maudlin changed the focus of the Chairman’s role, including opening the annual civic reception to residents by hosting an awards bash to celebrate the achievements of local communities.

This was one of many highlights of a term in office that included meeting Prince Charles at Jordon’s Mill.

Reminiscing on her two year’s as Chairman, Cllr Maudlin said: “I have been very proud representing this council across Central Bedfordshire and into neighbouring authorities. In my time I have worked with, met and formed friendships with the High Sheriff’s, the Lord Lieutenant Helen Nellis, organisations, businesses, charities, many council staff, residents and even West End stars plus the fabulous ‘chain gang’ from across the counties.

“I have worked closely with the community and seen the drive, determination and commitment of council staff and councillors alike who work towards the priorities of the authority to make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work.

She handed over the role of Chairman to Cllr David Bowater who will continue this work and act as an ambassador for the council, representing the authority on civic visits, at ceremonial events, as well as raising funds for his chosen charities, Multiple Sclerosis in Bedfordshire and Diabetes UK.
