Food waste boss gets his hands dirty on bin collection day

A food waste boss proved that he’s not scared to get his hands dirty by heading out on the bin round.

Chief executive Julian O’Neill of Biogen, which collects food waste from homes and processes it at its plant in Milton Ernest, joined bin men from Beds Central Council in Sandy last Thursday.

Mr O’Neill said: “We should all know more about how the end-to-end supply chain works in our businesses and this is the best way to go about it.

“The guys were great - very opening and accommodating.”

The collected waste is taken to the plant in Milton Ernest where it is processed and generates electricity for the National Grid. What is left at the end of the process is used as nutrient rich biofertiliser.
