An arson investigation has been officially launched after firefighters confirmed a blaze that put the lives of 13 people at risk was started deliberately.
Firefighters came to the rescue of those living in flats in Crowe Road, Bedford, after a fire was started in a communal area of the three storey block on the night of Wednesday, October 14 just after 11pm.
The residents had called in emergency services after smelling smoke.
This week a spokesman for Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service told Bedford Today: “Following an investigation by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service it was concluded that the fire had been started deliberately.”
The case has now been handed over to police for further investigation.
A spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
