The commonwealth flag was hoisted above Borough Hall this morning to mark Commonwealth Day.
The event, which was replicated across the nation and the countries of the Commonwealth, offers people an opportunity to show their commitment to the organisation and appreciate the values it stands for.
The flag ceremony was attended by council chief executive, Philip Simpkins, Bedford Mayor Dave Hodgson, High Sheriff Colin Osborne and HM Lord Lieutenant Helen Nellis.
Mayor Dave Hodgson, said: “Commonwealth Day enables people around the world to come together in a celebration of the Commonwealth.
“It is fitting that we should mark the occasion here in Bedford Borough, where residents of a wide range of different faiths and ethnicities live together in a diverse, integrated community.”
