Fire crews called to coffee shop fire

Fire crews were scrambled to the Harpur Centre in the early hours of this morning after a commercial dishwasher caught fire.

The blaze in Love Coffee set off an automatic fire alarm at 5.57am (December 8) on the ground floor of the shopping precinct.

A crew from Bedford Community Fire Station was sent to investigate and when they arrived seven minutes later they saw smoke coming from the premises and called for a second pump from Kempston to attend.

Using a fire hose and covering jet Firefighters fought the blaze protecting themselves from smoke by wearing breathing apparatus.

By 6.37am they had extinguished the fire and they then checked adjacent stores for fire or damage before closing the incident at 7.02am.

A Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the fire started accidentally and there were no casualties.
