Based in Amsterdam, Fantasticus is a multi-national trio featuring Japanese violinist Rie Kimura, English viola da gamba player Robert Smith and Argentinian harpsichordist Guillermo Brachetta, all prizewinning musicians.
The young group has already attracted wide interest and their debut recording in 2012 drew warm praise from the critics. Now you can hear them at the next Music on Thursdays series concert at Bunyan Meeting, Mill Street, Bedford, on November 13 at 7.45pm.
The group take their name from the so-called ‘stylus fantasticus’, a 17th-century style of composing driven by intense expression and bold extravagance. The combination of violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord was very popular during the whole Baroque period and allows Fantasticus to bring consistently varied programming and instrumental combinations to their audiences.
Tickets are £18 for adults, £16 concessions, £5 for students (aged 18-25), £2 for children under 18, from the Central Box Office on 01234 718112. Visit www.fantasticus.nl
