A family centre that was rated inadequate by Ofsted inspectors last year has been upgraded to good following a visit from the watchdog.

Bedford Borough Council has improved the service on offer at the Goldington Family Centre since the disappointing rating last year.

Councillor Henry Vann, who oversees education at the council, said: “It is great to see that the Goldington Family Centre is delivering such positive outcomes and we hope to further build on this success. Well done to everyone involved.”

Inspectors recognised the enthusiasm and commitment of leaders and a focus on individual support in their recently published report.

It also noted that a high priority is given to safeguarding children and there has been an increase in the number of families using the Meadway centre since the previous inspection visit.

The Goldington Family Centre network consists of three other children’s centre - Bedford Central, Putnoe and Riversmeet - all of which have also been given the good Ofsted grade.

Mr Vann said: “This is great news for the families who use and will use the centres.”

There are 15 children’s centre sites across Bedford borough, with sessions also delivered at local village halls, community venues and parks.
