Can we count on you to highlight UK’s litter kings?

Environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy is launching England’s Great Litter Count in a bid to find out what companies’ brands produce the most litter – and it’s asking for eyes on the street all over England to help.

For the first time ever, the charity is asking people to get involved with their annual survey. They want the public to help them count the types and brands of litter that blight communities across the country.

The results will then be used to identify which brands create the most rubbish so the charity can put even more pressure on those companies to reduce the waste left by their customers.

Keep Britain Tidy’s chief executive Phil Barton said: “We need everyone’s eyes on the ground to help us find out what products are littered the most.

People are fed up with littering, and love where they live. So we’re giving an outlet for their frustration, and asking them to arm us with the facts so we can work with those companies to keep England clean and green.”

It’s also really simple to help. Volunteers can count litter wherever and whenever they like. It can be a high street, a housing estate, around a school, in a park or on the beach. It will take about 30 minutes, with an easy-to-use online form to report results. The deadline is February 15.

Keep Britain Tidy will then compile the data, alongside the findings of their qualified surveyors, to release their annual results – and wants 2013 to be the most comprehensive year yet.
