Bedford is far from rubbish when it comes to keeping town clean

Plastic Patrol carried out the research through its app and revealed Bedford came sixth in the country for keeping it clean.

64,913 pieces of litter were recorded nationwide by the public through app over a nine-month period - while Bedford collected and recorded 1,510 pieces of litter.

The top five most frequently found types of litter in Bedford were:

Drinks cans (22 per cent)

Plastic bottles (20 per cent)

Plastic packaging (18 per cent)

Glass bottles (10 per cent)

Plastic fragments (7 per cent)

Coca-Cola, Foster's, McDonald's, Stella Artois and Tyskie were found to be the top five polluting brands in Bedford.
