Over the festive season, households generate around 30% more waste, so it’s even more important to reduce, reuse and recycle.
As most of the extra waste created at Christmas can be recycled – AVDC will collect extra recycling if it’s put into a clear bag or cardboard box and placed next to the recycling bin on collection day.
At a time when homes are likely to be overflowing with wrapping paper, boxes and empty bottles of festive fizz, residents can help reduce waste by filling their blue-lidded recycling bin with:
• Christmas cards and crackers (without the snap)

• Paper hats
• Non-glittery wrapping paper
• Chocolate boxes
• Gift packaging and all the usual recyclable items
In addition, AVDC’s online Waste Wizard can be used to determine which items can be recycled: www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/section/what-goes-each-bin
Residents who have subscribed to AVDC’s garden waste collection service can put natural Christmas trees, wreaths, holly and mistletoe in their brown garden waste bin. However, they should first remove any decorations and cut the tree down to smaller, manageable pieces.
Garden waste collections in Aylesbury Vale will start again from Monday 27 January 2020.
Residents who aren’t currently subscribed to AVDC’s garden waste collection service can still recycle their natural Christmas tree by taking it to a local recycling and waste centre. The locations and opening times of the centres can be found here: www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/HRC
AVDC’s revised Christmas bin collection dates can be viewed on the ‘Find Your Bin Day’ webpage or by downloading the AVDC Bin Collection app: www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/christmas-recycling-and-waste
If there are any further changes to bin collection dates due to unforeseen circumstances – such as inclement weather – these will be posted on AVDC’s website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
