A school in Bedford is celebrating being granted Primary School status from September 2015.
Queens Park Academy (QPA) situated on Chestnut Drive have been awarded the opportunity by the Department for Education (DFE)
Anne McCormick, Excutive Headteacher of QPA said: “We are absolutely delighted because we have been trying to become a Primary School for a while now.
“The feedback from our parents upon hearing the news has been very positive and this award is also a response to lot of our parents wishes.
“We are proud to have our status approved as we are committed to ensuring the very best provision at QPA. We recognise that this will be a period of transition for our families and neighbouring schools and we remain committed to working together to achieve the highest standards.
“Our mission statement ‘An Adventure in Learning Together’ is central to this aspiration. Over the next few months we will be working with our families and colleagues to prepare for Year 5 in 2015 and then for Year 6 in 2016.
“This is an exciting time for us at QPA as we have the opportunity to offer the full KS2 curriculum which means we can be in line with the rest of the country which is essential for us in Queens Park.
“We talked to our children and they are all very excited too - and they want to stay and become part of the success we all hope and believe our new primary school will become.”
Elaine Mullins Business Manger of QPA added: “We are very proud and pleased of the fact we are to become a Primary School from September 2015 and we are all looking forward to it.”
A spokesperson for the Department of Education said: ““We are committed to allowing good schools to expand. Queens Park Academy, rated good by Ofsted, has been granted approval to extend its age range from 5-9 to 5-11. A consultation was undertaken in early 2014 and the proposal approved in August. The change will come in from September 2015.”
