Bedford’s rubbish tip is closed today (Wednesday) due to the strong winds.

The household waste recycling facility in Barkers Lane uses open containers for items such as cardboard and wood, which means they’re susceptible to the elements.

A spokesman for Bedford Borough Council said: “It is weather dependent when the winds die down we will re-open the site.”

High winds are currently being caused by Storm Frank. Heavy rain is expected this afternoon and into this evening.

Tidy Tips run by Central Bedfordshire Council remain open.
