Drivers escape serious injury in bypass accident

Drivers were diverted off the A421 this morning after two cars were involved in an accident.

A Mini Cooper, which overturned, and an Audi A3 crashed on the road between the Kempston and Marston Moretain junctions during rush hour.

A reader who was caught in the queue said: “I was stuck in a mammoth traffic jam on the Bedford bypass this morning.

“There was an overturned car on the westbound carriageway. They were tidying up when I went past but it looked nasty.”

Bedfordshire Police said officers were called to the incident at 7.35am. The two drivers escaped with cuts and bruises.

A police spokesman added there was damage to the barriers, which was repaired and the road fully re-opened at 9.38am.
