
At around 4am on Thursday, June 23, just past Junction 6A of the northbound carriageway, the driver of a blue Mercedes collided with the nearside barrier, for reasons unknown at this time.
Shortly after the first collision, a white Nissan Juke collided with the nearside barrier and the Mercedes, also for reasons unknown at this stage.
The driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital with life‐threatening injuries where he remains in a serious condition.
A passenger from the Mercedes was taken to hospital with a head injury.

The driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries.
