Discover the hidden stories behind some of Bedfordshire’s most iconic buildings and places at a series of special free events celebrating the county’s local heritage during Heritage week.
From Thursday, September 10 to Sunday, September 13, local heritage properties will throw open their doors as part of the nationwide Heritage Open Days events.
Tours, walks and talks will provide a unique insight into the foundations of Bedfordshire.
Events include free archaeological walks around Bedford town centre, peeks behind the scenes at Stevington Windmill and Bromham Mill, along with a treasure hunt through archive material relating to 1 to 4 St Pauls Square.
For those would -be detectives, learning about past crimes in Willington at Willington Dovecote may entice you.
Bedford Borough Mayor Dave Hodgson said “There are an array of fantastic buildings and historic sites across the local area. Each of the locations involved in Heritage Week has its own fascinating story and this is a great opportunity to learn more about our local history and our historical landmarks.
“These events are free to attend so I hope lots of people will be able to take a look behind the scenes and discover some of the stories that have become part of our local heritage.”
