The male driver was travelling along the A600 at Deadman’s Cross, between Bedford and Shefford, when his silver Mercedes left the road.

Firefighters from Kempston, Bedford and Biggleswade were called to the incident at about 2.30am, on Sunday, March 6.

When they arrived they found the man trapped in his car, which was on its roof, and extricated him using Halmatro cutting equipment.

A brigade spokesman said: “He was then passed into the care of the ambulance service. The incident was closed at 3.25am.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident, which saw the road closed until 7.30am as emergency services transported the man to hospital and carried out recovery work.
